Moving sitting with ergonomic movement chairs

Movement chairs are popular in many offices and especially in the home office. But what is an exercise chair anyway? Sitting at a desk or screen for hours on end is not only bad for your back, but also for your entire body. Ergonomic desk chairs therefore ensure that the spine is comfortably supported while seated, but they must also activate the body. Constant small balancing movements, such as balancing or rocking, train the muscles of the upper body and stimulate the circulation. Both promote concentration and performance and at the same time ensure a permanently healthy back that does not slump, but sits upright using its own muscle strength. A movement chair achieves this ergonomic performance by being particularly flexible and movable.

Variants of ergonomic kneeling chairs

There are various models of kneeling chairs that provide movement in different ways.

One common characteristic is the great freedom of movement that all movement chairs allow. This often applies to the sitting position itself, which can be completely changed in some models. In other movement chairs, the backrest and seat cushion swing in minimal movements and thus set the body in motion. Swivel stools allow the hips to move freely through 360°, while skid-base chairs allow free movement in one dimension. Discover our skid-base chairs from Varier here.

Important: If you work in a concentrated manner for several hours at a time, you should be able to lock the mobility of your task chair at least temporarily. It is not possible to use a mobility chair continuously; at some point the muscles will become tired. This applies in particular to mobility chairs without a backrest.

FAQ

1. What are motion chairs?

Movement chairs activate the body while sitting so that it is constantly in motion. Which movements are performed depends on the type of chair. The important thing is that many small, balancing movements imperceptibly train the muscles, stimulate the circulation and activate the intervertebral discs. Moving, active sitting on a motion chair promotes the concentration of oxygen in the blood and therefore keeps you awake and productive for longer.

2. What movement chairs are available?

Active sitting is possible on a variety of chairs: there are classic office chairs with swinging mechanisms, pendulum stools with a curved base, skid chairs that rock back and forth, but also very comfortable lounge chairs that swing slightly. Kneeling chairs, standing aids and swivel stools with a low backrest, on which you can sit backwards so that the backrest becomes an armrest, are also considered movement chairs in the broader sense.

3. Which manufacturers offer mobility chairs?

Movement chairs are produced by many renowned office furniture manufacturers: There are motion chairs in many shapes from MOIZI and Varier, from Haider Bioswing as well as Löffler, Aeris and Mayer Sitzmöbel. You can try out and buy all brands at Profi-Line in Gotha.

4. Are motion chairs ergonomic?

There is no more ergonomic chair than a motion chair! The moving, active or even dynamic sitting that such a chair enables or even forces is ergonomic in the best sense of the word: it trains the body, ensures well-being at the workplace and increases performance. An exercise chair is therefore a worthwhile investment for all employers.

5. For whom are exercise chairs not suitable?

Exercise chairs are not always suitable for people suffering from chronic physical complaints, acute musculoskeletal disorders or severe obesity. It depends on the particular model as to whether it can have a positive effect or is more likely to overload the body. Be sure to seek advice on this from our Profi-Line specialists!
